HCMC – The northern province of Quang Ninh has announced a nine-month extension of a VND6.4-trillion road project that will connect the Halong-Haiphong Expressway and Dong Trieu town.
The Bai Bach river coastal road, approved in late 2021, will have a total length of 40.25 kilometers and three lanes in each direction. It will include 13 river crossings and is designed to enhance connectivity between Quang Yen, Uong Bi and Dong Trieu.
The project has encountered delays, with only the foundations and piers of 13 bridges completed so far.
Nguyen Duy Kien, deputy head of the Quang Ninh Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board, attributed the setbacks to challenging geological conditions and material shortages caused by heavy rainfall. They are now considering getting fill material from the Tay Son quarry in Dong Trieu.
During a recent site visit, the province’s chairman, Cao Tuong Huy, urged coordination among departments to resolve issues and keep the project on track.
The new completion date is set for September 2025.
