HCMC – Vietnam’s Ministry of Information and Communications has fined ShopeePay, a widely used digital payment platform, VND25 million for inadequate cybersecurity reviews, the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported.
During a cybersecurity inspection on August 19, officials found that ShopeePay had not fully evaluated the effectiveness of its security features, a requirement under Vietnam’s data protection laws. ShopeePay, a subsidiary of tech company Sea Ltd., showed gaps in cybersecurity management, failing to consistently follow security protocols during both regular operations and system maintenance.
The ministry has urged ShopeePay and other digital platforms to ensure rigorous cybersecurity configurations and conduct regular tests to uphold data safety standards.
