HCMC – Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has asked the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for concessional loans for strategic projects in Vietnam, focusing on digital transformation, green transition, and critical infrastructure.
The request was made during Chinh’s meeting with ADB President Masatsugu Asakawa at the 8th Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) Summit in China on November 6, reported the Vietnam News Agency.
Highlighting Vietnam’s 30-year partnership with the ADB, Chinh urged stronger collaboration in emerging sectors, including digitalization, renewable energy and cloud computing.
Asakawa acknowledged Vietnam’s growing influence within the GMS and urged the country to expedite the disbursement of ADB funds for ongoing projects. He reaffirmed ADB’s commitment to helping Vietnam achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
Chinh outlined Vietnam’s priorities, requesting ADB financing for major projects, including offshore wind energy, high-speed rail, and urban transit systems. He also sought ADB’s expertise in policy advisory for macroeconomic and fiscal stability, inflation control, and growth promotion, which would further enhance Vietnam’s global supply chain competitiveness.
Asakawa expressed ADB’s commitment to providing low-interest loans to support Vietnam’s climate resilience and integration into global supply chains.
