HCMC – Metro Line No. 1, which connects Ben Thanh Market and Suoi Tien Theme Park in HCMC, recorded high ridership and revenue during the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday.
The urban rail line served over 761,000 passengers from January 24 to February 2, generating more than VND11.7 billion in ticket sales, according to HCMC Urban Railways No. 1 Company Limited (HURC1).
During the peak holiday period from January 29 to February 2, or the first to the fifth day of the Lunar New Year, the first metro line of the city transported 522,839 passengers in 928 train trips.
The busiest day was the second day of the Lunar New Year with over 120,000 riders, prompting the operator to add extra trains to meet demand.
On average, the metro line earned over VND1.3 billion per day during Tet.
Following a month of free rides to promote public use after its December 2024 commercial launch, the 19.7-kilometer metro line transitioned to a paid fare system on January 21.
A day pass costs VND40,000, while a three-day pass is available for VND90,000. Monthly passes are priced at VND300,000 for regular passengers and VND150,000 for students.
Single-trip fares range from VND7,000-VND20,000 for cash payments and VND6,000-VND19,000 for non-cash payments, depending on distance traveled.
Passengers eligible for free travel include veterans, people with disabilities, senior citizens, and children under six years old.
