Hanoi City sees surge in bus travel during Tet holiday

HCMC – Hanoi City’s three major bus stations handled over 187,000 passengers during the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday, rocketing 300% to 400% compared to regular days, according to the city’s Department of Transport.

At Giap Bat Bus Station, daily passenger numbers peaked at 16,500, with over 850 bus departures. Most travelers were headed to Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Ninh Binh, and Thanh Hoa provinces.

My Dinh Bus Station also saw a peak of 16,500 passengers per day, with 886 bus departures serving key destinations such as Hoa Binh, Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Dien Bien, Son La, Lai Chau, Quang Ninh, and Cao Bang.

At Gia Lam Bus Station, the peak reached 3,600 passengers per day, with 426 bus trips transporting travelers mainly to Haiphong, Quang Ninh, and Bac Giang.

From January 25 to February 2, public buses in Hanoi transported more than 6.5 million passengers across nearly 118,000 trips.

Meanwhile, the Cat Linh–Ha Dong and Nhon–Hanoi Railway Station metro lines carried over 229,000 passengers during the same period, operating nearly 3,800 train trips.

The Department of Transport confirmed that security and order were well maintained at bus stations despite the peak travel demand.
