HCMC – Vietnam plans to complete 1,188 kilometers of expressway through 28 projects this year, said Le Quyet Tien, director of the Transport Construction Investment Management Authority at the Ministry of Transport.
The ministry is overseeing 17 projects with a total of 889 kilometers, including 10 sections of the North-South Expressway (in the 2021-2025 phase), which stretches 610 kilometers from Ha Tinh to Khanh Hoa provinces. Other key projects include the Lo Te-Rach Soi Expressway (51.5km), Cao Lanh-Lo Te Expressway (29km), and Ben Luc-Long Thanh Expressway (55km), with the exception of the Phuoc Khanh Bridge, which remains incomplete.
Four projects are currently facing delays due to land clearance issues and material shortages, including the Hoa Lien-Tuy Loan Expressway and the second phase of the Bien Hoa-Vung Tau Expressway. Authorities are actively working to resolve these obstacles and expedite construction.
Of the 11 expressway projects managed by local authorities, two are on track—phase 3 of the Bien Hoa-Vung Tau Expressway and Segment 7 of HCMC Beltway No. 3.
However, nine projects are experiencing setbacks, including the Tuyen Quang-Ha Giang Expressway, several sections of the Khanh Hoa-Buon Ma Thuot Expressway, and parts of HCMC Beltway No. 3, all of which are struggling with land acquisition and material supply.
Deputy Transport Minister Nguyen Duy Lam stated that the completion of the 1,188km of expressway currently under construction would send up the total length of Vietnam’s expressway network to 3,000km, surpassing the Government’s target.
Nearly 300km of expressway remains under strict supervision, with the Vietnam Expressway Authority working closely with local authorities to overcome challenges and accelerate progress.
