HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has approved a VND653-billion budget to upgrade the 220kV Chau Doc-Kien Binh power transmission line in the Mekong Delta, reported the local media.

Managed by the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), the project will convert the line from a single to a double circuit, ensuring a stable electricity supply for An Giang, Kien Giang, Dong Thap, and Cambodia’s Ta Keo Province. The upgrade is expected to prevent overloading and facilitate the integration of renewable energy into the national grid.

The plan involves constructing a new 220kV transmission line alongside the existing one, covering 71.14 kilometers. The project is scheduled for completion in 2027.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment will oversee the project’s evaluation under Vietnam’s Investment Law, while the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and the Ministry of Construction will ensure compliance with regulations on energy, environmental protection, and construction standards.

Local authorities in An Giang and Kien Giang will incorporate the project into land-use and urban planning and coordinate with environmental agencies to meet impact assessment requirements.

EVNNPT will conduct feasibility studies and collaborate with local governments on route selection and land-use approvals. The company must integrate regulatory feedback before proceeding with implementation.
