HCMC – The central city of Danang has been directed to finalize and submit a plan for a free trade zone to the National Assembly by April, following a request made during a meeting between Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Danang officials on February 9.
Local authorities confirmed that the proposal is complete and they expect Government approval by March, the local media reported. Strategic investors will fund internal infrastructure, while the city will finance external connections through public investment.
Danang is also collaborating with the Ministry of Planning and Investment on a regional financial center proposal, scheduled for submission to the National Assembly in May. Authorities are preparing strategies to attract investors and develop human resources to support the initiative.
The Government has instructed Danang to streamline its administrative structures by the end of February, implementing reforms in March as part of national efforts to improve governance efficiency.
Several large-scale projects are set to begin in the first half of 2025, including a VND150 trillion infrastructure initiative, said Nguyen Van Quang, secretary of the Danang Party Committee. The long-delayed Chi Lang Stadium project is expected to complete site clearance by April 30, paving the way for an auction next year.
Authorities are also addressing regulatory issues related to the Thuan Phuoc coastal reclamation projects, while a key highway segment passing through Danang is expected to open by August 2025.
Danang has proposed streamlining procedures to commence construction on Lien Chieu Port between September and October. The city is also seeking policy changes to facilitate investment, integrate a planned LNG power plant into the national energy plan, and expand Danang International Airport.
The prime minister has instructed the Ministry of Planning and Investment to expedite investor selection for Lien Chieu Port. Additionally, the Government has approved plans to upgrade Chu Lai Airport to international 4F standards and expand Danang airport’s terminal capacity. Emirates Airlines has been granted approval to operate flights to Danang.
