HCMC – The United Kingdom is hosting the annual Regional Maritime Security Symposium in Bali, Indonesia, from February 10 to 14, aiming to strengthen regional cooperation and enhance resilience against maritime threats in Southeast Asia.
The symposium has gathered representatives from across the Indo-Pacific, including Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Brunei, and Vietnam, to build a mutual understanding of maritime challenges and enhance communication and cooperation to improve collective security.
UK Minister for Indo-Pacific Catherine West reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to regional security, stating, “A free and open Indo-Pacific is essential to economic growth, peace, and security. Recent maritime activity has heightened tensions, and only through partnership can we address these challenges and seize opportunities.”
Rear Admiral Angus Essenhigh, the UK’s National Hydrographer, highlighted the importance of the event, saying, “This is our third year hosting the symposium, reinforcing our commitment to the region and the rules-based international system. Through cooperation, we support economic growth, job creation, and efforts to mitigate climate change.”
