HCMC – The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has called on airlines to expand their fleets, improve operational efficiency, and optimize flight schedules to meet increasing travel demand.
In February, the total number of air passengers reached 7.3 million, up by 12.4% year-on-year. Vietnamese carriers transported 4.8 million passengers, up by 6.2%, including 1.7 million international travelers, a 15.4% rise.
To accommodate this growth, CAAV has urged airlines to add more aircraft, enhance fleet operations, and adjust flight schedules based on airport service capacity.
Airlines have also been asked to report their passenger service capacity, especially during peak travel periods such as Reunification Day (April 30), International Labor Day (May 1), the summer break, and National Day (September 2).
In addition, CAAV has requested airlines to strengthen international connections to tourist destinations such as Danang, Nha Trang, Hue, Phu Quoc, Van Don, Cat Bi, and Dalat.
Domestic services must also be improved, with a focus on enhancing service quality, increasing on-time performance, and optimizing flight schedules for quick turnaround times.
The Airports Corporation of Vietnam and Van Don International Airport have been directed to ensure sufficient infrastructure, manpower, and equipment to maintain service quality, safety, and security.
They must also increase staff for vehicle guidance, implement technology for traffic coordination, and prevent congestion.
CAAV has further instructed relevant units to continue negotiations for expanding international operations, monitor transportation activities, and use technology to coordinate flight schedules. Operational efficiency at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports must also be improved, with preparations underway for the commissioning of Terminal T3 and Long Thanh International Airport.
