Domestic gold prices exceed VND100 million per tael

HCMC – Gold prices in Vietnam continued their relentless climb, as gold rings surged further this afternoon, March 19, to cross the VND100-million-per-tael mark.

As of 11 a.m. today, March 19, the price of SJC gold bars continued rising by VND300,000 per tael against this morning to a record high of VND97.9 million per tael for buying and VND99.4 million per tael for selling.

Gold rings at SJC set a new record of VND97.8-99.3 million per tael, up by VND300,000 on both sides. At some private firms, the selling price of gold rings has hit the VND100-million-per-tael mark.

Earlier, at around 10:30 a.m., many jewelry firms hiked their gold ring prices to more than VND99 million per tael.

At Phu Quy Jewelry, round ring gold was quoted at VND98 million per tael for buying and VND99.6 million per tael for selling, an increase of VND900,000 per tael on the buying side and VND1 million per tael on the selling side against yesterday’s close.

At Bao Tin Minh Chau, plain round ring gold was priced at VND98.15 million per tael for buying and VND99.7 million per tael for selling, up VND900,000 per tael on both ends.

PNJ listed its ring gold prices at VND97.7 million per tael for buying and VND99.5 million per tael for selling.

On the global market, gold prices surged 1% on March 18 to an all-time high, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

Spot gold briefly hit a peak of US$3,038.26 per ounce before trimming gains and settling at US$3,032.96 per ounce at 11 p.m. (Vietnam time), up by 1.05% from the previous session. The precious metal first crossed the US$3,000-per-ounce threshold on March 14.
