HCMC – The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has told several airlines to add flights to and from HCMC to meet strong travel demand during the upcoming public holiday commemorating the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the south and the reunification of the nation.

In a recent directive, the CAAV requested airlines to raise flight frequency on the Hanoi–HCMC route and other domestic services from April 20 to May 5 o accommodate the higher volume of passengers traveling to the city to attend national events and facilitate holiday-related travel.

Airlines are encouraged to deploy additional flights during off-peak and nighttime slots. They are also urged to proactively allocate resources, closely monitor ticket sales, and swiftly adjust schedules by adding flights on routes showing strong demand.

Carriers must coordinate with airport authorities and aviation service providers to ensure adequate staffing and smooth operations. They are told to maintain service quality, adhere to published flight schedules, and improve customer support, especially regarding complaints and service disruptions.

The CAAV previously instructed airlines to enhance service standards and ensure flight safety during the Reunification Day and International Labor Day holidays (April 30–May 1), as well as the summer travel peak. Flights to and from HCMC remain a central focus due to high travel volumes.

Provincial governments have also been tasked with directing transport departments to review and increase bus services to airports, extend service hours, and encourage taxi and ride-hailing companies to boost vehicle availability, especially for nighttime arrivals.

During this holiday period, domestic airlines are expected to operate around 7,536 flights, offering around 1.5 million seats, an increase of over 20% compared to the same period last year. This translates to an average of 685 flights per day.
