HCMC – Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son has approved an investor for the 220kV Than Uyen-500kV Lao Cai transmission line project, which is set to begin construction in the second quarter of this year and be completed by the end of the same year.
The project will be developed by the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT).
It will comprise a new 220kV double-circuit overhead transmission line totaling around 73.54 kilometers, which connects the Than Uyen 220kV substation in the northern upland province of Lai Chau and the Lao Cai 500kV substation in Lao Cai, also a northern upland province.
EVNNPT will finance 30% of the project cost using its own capital, while the remaining 70% will be covered by commercial loans.
The project aims to meet the growing power transmission demand driven by the surplus electricity generated from hydropower development in Lai Chau.
It will strengthen interregional connections within the national grid, enhance operational safety and stability, reduce transmission losses, and improve the overall efficiency of electricity production and business operations for Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN).
