HCMC – Vietnam reported 7,988 new Covid cases this evening, November 8, with HCMC, Dong Nai, Binh Duong accounting for a total of over 3,000 cases, said the Ministry of Health.
Of the new infections, 34 were imported cases. The remaining 7,954 cases were locally infected, up 323 cases day-on-day.
HCMC took the lead with 1,316 cases, rising 307 cases against yesterday. The neighboring provinces of Dong Nai and Binh Duong reported 969 and 823 cases, respectively.
An Giang recorded 531 cases, while the other southern provinces of Tien Giang, Kien Giang, Tay Ninh, Dong Thap had over 350 cases each. The rest were found in 47 provinces and cities across the country.
The ministry also announced that over 1,000 Covid patients were free of the disease the same day, sending the country’s total recoveries to nearly 841,500 cases. Meanwhile, the country recorded 67 Covid-related deaths, taking the total to nearly 22,600 cases as of now.
In related news, Thai Nguyen City in the province of the same name suspended dine-in services starting today due to the complicated Covid situation. Eateries in the city are now allowed to offer take-away services only.
According to the Center for Disease Control in Thai Nguyen, this northern province reported 33 new cases in the first week of this month, with the source of transmission of 30 cases remaining unknown.
Cao Lanh City and Cao Lanh District in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap also suspended dine-in services starting last weekend for the same reason.
In another development, as the coronavirus outbreak hit local schools, the northern city of Haiphong decided to launch its vaccination campaign for children aged from 12 to under 18 starting November 10.
