HCMC – The Ministry of Industry and Trade has launched a national program to support digital transformation for vendors at traditional wet markets.
The program, led by the Vietnam e-Commerce and Digital Economy Agency, aims to expand the use of digital payments, enhance online sales, and improve digital skills among small vendors.
It will be implemented nationwide and includes training programs, technology demonstrations, and the rollout of digital tools. A support network will also be established to assist vendors in the transition process.
The ministry introduced a digital transformation handbook for traditional vendors, available at https://sotay.tieuthuongvietnam.vn.
Le Hoang Oanh, head of the agency, said digital payments are essential for promoting e-commerce and the digital economy in Vietnam. She said non-cash payments help vendors reduce transaction costs and access a wider customer base.
According to the national e-commerce development plan for 2026-2030, 80% of e-commerce transactions are expected to be made via non-cash payment methods by 2030.
To reach this goal, authorities plan to improve digital payment infrastructure, integrate systems between service providers and merchants, and encourage the use of QR codes, e-wallets, and contactless payments.
The ministry said the program will help narrow the gap between rural and urban areas in digital commerce adoption. Traditional markets and small vendors play a key role in local economies and stand to benefit from expanded digital access, it added.
