Hoa Phat’s H1 HRC steel sales up 42%

HCMC – Hoa Phat Group (HOSE: HPG) reported a 42% year-on-year increase in hot-rolled coil (HRC) steel sales in the first half of this year to 2.2 million tons, backed by to growing domestic demand.

Crude steel output in the second quarter reached 2.5 million tons, unchanged from the previous quarter but up 10% from a year earlier.

Total steel sales in Q2, including HRC, construction steel, high-quality steel and billets, rose 18% against the same period last year to 2.6 million tons.

HRC sales in April-June exceeded 1.1 million tons, up 18% quarter-on-quarter. Sales of construction and high-quality steel reached 1.3 million tons, up 7% from Q1. Galvanized steel and steel pipe sales rose to 110,000 tons and 216,000 tons, respectively.

In the January–June period, the steelmaker produced 5.1 million tons of crude steel, rising 17% over the same period last year. Total sales climbed 23% to five million tons.

The company said it maintained a 38% market share in construction steel. Hoa Phat is completing its sixth blast furnace at the Dung Quat 2 steel complex, with full operations expected by September. Upon completion, the group’s annual production capacity will reach 16 million tons, including 8.5 million tons of HRC, enough to meet domestic demand, it said.

HPG’s eight-session winning streak came to an end today, July 14, as the share fell 0.96% to finish the session at VND25,750, with a volume of 49.44 million shares.

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index edged higher on Monday, led by gains in real estate and banking stocks, while market liquidity remained strong.

The VN-Index rose 12.66 points, or 0.87%, to 1,470.42 points, with 206 winners and 117 losers. Trading volume reached nearly 1.35 billion shares worth VND31.45 trillion, up 6.3% in volume but down 1.5% in value over the previous session.

The VN30-Index, which tracks the 30 largest-cap stocks on the Hochiminh Stock Exchange, added 11.65 points, or 0.73%, to 1,605.66 points. Developer VIC rose 4.6% to a record VND113,000, contributing around 4.7 points to the main index.

Lender VPB gained 4.2% to VND21,000 with nearly 63.4 million shares traded. Foreign investors net bought nine million shares. It was the most actively traded stock on the market. Meanwhile, bank stock VCB dipped 0.5%, weighing on the index.

The real estate sector performed well, with several stocks hitting ceiling prices. DXG stole the limelight as it hit its ceiling price and saw over 55.4 million shares matched. Its related firm DXS also hit its upper limit and recorded over 10.1 million shares matched.

Banking, securities, and steel stocks rose slightly. BSI led the securities group with a 4.4% gain. SSI was the most active in this sector, trading nearly 51.5 million shares and edging up 0.3%.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index added 0.8 point, or 0.33%, to 239.61 points, with 87 gainers and 81 decliners. Trading volume on the northern bourse reached 137.2 million shares worth a total of VND2.27 trillion.
