HCMC – Vietnamese citizens will be entitled to free annual health check-ups or screenings, starting in 2026, under a new resolution issued by the Politburo.

Party General Secretary To Lam has signed Resolution 72 of the Politburo on breakthrough measures to strengthen the protection, care, and improvement of public health.

The resolution outlines targets through 2030 to enhance physical strength, intellectual capacity, stature, and healthy life expectancy. It aims to increase the average height of children and adolescents by at least 1.5 centimeters, lift average life expectancy to 75.5 years, and ensure at least 68 healthy years of life.

Other goals include reducing disease burdens and risk factors, raising vaccination coverage above 95%, boosting the proportion of people exercising regularly by 10%, and tightening controls on alcohol, tobacco, and environmental risks.

Citizens will have access to quality healthcare services, moving toward comprehensive health care.

Starting in 2026, they will be entitled to free annual health check-ups or screenings and will be provided with electronic health records to manage their health, gradually reducing the burden of medical expenses.

By 2030, citizens will be exempt from basic hospital fees within the scope of health insurance benefits.

At the same time, all commune-level health centers will be equipped with adequate infrastructure, medical equipment, and personnel in line with their functions and duties, with at least four to five doctors at each station by 2027.

Health insurance coverage is expected to reach over 95% of the population by 2026 and achieve universal coverage by 2030, along with the development of various types of health insurance.

According to the resolution, by 2045, Vietnam aims to ensure a high-quality living environment, with health indicators and access to essential medical services on par with developed countries.
