HCMC – The United Kingdom has pledged to support HCMC in developing public transport infrastructure and transforming the city into a modern, inclusive urban hub.
On September 23, the HCMC People’s Committee and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in urban development, construction, infrastructure, and transportation.
The signing was witnessed by UK Trade Envoy Matt Western and UK Ambassador to Vietnam Iain Frew, reported the Vietnam News Agency.
Under the MoU, both sides agreed to strengthen collaboration through specific programs and projects in sustainable urban development, transit-oriented development (TOD), and capacity building for HCMC officials in urban management and planning.
In infrastructure, cooperation will focus on sharing expertise in planning, management, maintenance, upgrading, and operations. The two sides will also explore advanced technologies, attract investment, and mobilize resources for major infrastructure projects.
The partnership will extend to developing a modern, smart, and sustainable urban transport system. This includes applying new technologies, training personnel in the railway sector, and introducing building information modeling (BIM) in transport and metro projects.
The agreement reflects the UK’s commitment to contributing to Vietnam’s economic growth and improving the quality of life through strengthened public-private partnerships and knowledge exchange.
