HCMC – Vietnam has set an ambitious goal for its logistics sector to grow 12–15% annually by 2035, under a newly approved national development strategy that aims to modernize the industry and strengthen its role in global supply chains.

Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son has signed Decision No. 2229/QD-TTg approving the Vietnam Logistics Services Development Strategy for 2025–2035, with a vision to 2050.

Under the plan, the logistics industry is expected to contribute 5–7% to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) during the 2025–2035 period. The share of businesses outsourcing logistics services is targeted to reach 70–80%, while logistics costs are projected to fall to 12–15% of GDP.

Vietnam also aims to rank among the world’s top 40 countries in the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index (LPI). By 2035, 80% of logistics companies are expected to adopt digital transformation solutions, and the country plans to develop at least five modern logistics centers that meet international standards.

The strategy emphasizes green and low-emission logistics, transitioning toward renewable energy sources. It also targets a more skilled workforce, with 70% of logistics employees receiving technical training and 30% holding university degrees or higher.

Looking ahead to 2050, Vietnam expects the sector to maintain an average annual growth rate of 10–12%, with logistics costs reduced further to 10–12% of GDP. At least 10 modern logistics hubs will be established nationwide to serve as regional and international supply chain gateways.

Key measures include investing in free trade zones linked with seaports, airports, and border gates; upgrading logistics parks, distribution centers, and smart warehouses; and developing a logistics technology market.

The plan also calls for integrating logistics services into digital and green transformation initiatives, and promoting supply chain linkages for agricultural products to ensure quality and efficiency in key production areas.
