HCMC – Vietnam has added the Ninh Thuan 1 and 2 nuclear power projects in Khanh Hoa Province to its national priority energy list, with each plant planned to have a capacity of 2,000–3,200 MW and expected to start operation between 2030 and 2035.
Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son signed the decision that allows ministries, local authorities, and investors to accelerate planning, allocate funding, complete procedures, and implement projects on schedule, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
The list includes 32 generation projects, covering thermal power, hydropower, offshore wind, and LNG-to-power facilities. Large LNG projects in Haiphong, Bac Lieu, Quang Ninh, and Ca Na are scheduled to come online between 2030 and the mid-2030s.
Hydropower development includes pumped-storage projects in Bac Ai, Don Duong, and Phuoc Hoa, which are slated for operation from 2029 to 2035. Offshore wind plans include a 2,000 MW cluster in the south-central region and a 3,000 MW project designed to export power to Singapore and Malaysia by 2033.
The approved list also identifies LNG storage facilities in Quang Ninh, Thai Binh, Nghi Son, Hai Lang, Ca Na, Bac Lieu, and Vung Ang, along with major gas-to-power chains such as Lo B, Blue Whale, and Son My.
Key transmission lines and substations, such as the 500 kV Dien Bien–Lai Chau–Yen Bai–Thai Nguyen and 500 kV Son La 1–Son Tay–Dan Phuong lines, are part of the plan. Three interregional industrial and renewable energy service centers in the south-central and southern regions are expected to start operations in 2030.
