HCMC – The Standing Board of the HCMC Party Committee has agreed in principle to proceed with the Ben Thanh–Can Gio railway project, a key component in the city’s long-term urban transport and regional connectivity development plan.

The proposed rail line will run more than 54 kilometers from September 23 Park in Ben Thanh Ward to a 39-hectare site bordering the under-construction Vinhomes Green Paradise Can Gio urban area.

The express railway will be developed by VinSpeed High-Speed Railway Investment and Development JSC.

According to the committee’s conclusion, the Ben Thanh–Can Gio railway is expected to meet rising passenger demand, support urban expansion, and create new momentum for socio-economic growth. The project aligns with the city’s orientation toward developing strategic transport corridors.

The committee tasked the Party Committee of the HCMC People’s Committee with directing relevant departments and agencies to review all investment procedures to ensure compliance with regulations. During implementation, authorities must enforce strict inspection and supervision solutions to secure feasibility and progress, while minimizing impacts on protective forests, landscapes, ecosystems, and local heritage sites.

The dual-track line will adopt a standard gauge of 1,435 mm, designed for speeds of up to 350 km/h and axle loads of 17 tons. The first phase will include two stations—Ben Thanh and Can Gio—and four additional stations in the second phase when demand increases, including Tan Thuan, Tan My, Nha Be, and Binh Khanh.

The route will start inside September 23 Park, running parallel to Le Lai Street before shifting toward Nguyen Thai Hoc and Ky Con streets, crossing the Ben Nghe Canal and continuing along Hoang Dieu Street. It will then extend southeast along Doan Nhu Hai Street through the Nha Rong Port area toward the Tan Thuan 2 Bridge.

From there, the line will follow Nguyen Van Linh Parkway past Nguyen Thi Thap Street into Tan My Ward, then head south toward Nguyen Luong Bang Street and Road 15B, reaching the Rach Dia overpass into Nha Be District.

After entering Nha Be, the railway will continue southeast through the Van Phat Hung resettlement area and Phu Xuan residential zone before crossing the Soai Rap River into Binh Khanh Commune and proceeding toward the Can Gio terminal.
