HCMC – The HCMC People’s Committee has approved plans to build two pedestrian bridges on Ton Duc Thang Street and upgrade the adjacent Ba Son wharves, aiming to improve connectivity and enhance the riverside landscape at Bach Dang Park.
The project, proposed by the city’s Department of Construction, includes two steel pedestrian bridges, each six meters wide. One bridge will be located at the Nguyen Hue–Ton Duc Thang intersection, in front of the Majestic Saigon Hotel. The other will be built at the Thai Van Lung–Ton Duc Thang junction, near The Landmark building.

Both bridges will be equipped with elevators and decorative lighting to improve accessibility and create visual highlights in the area.
In addition, the city will refurbish wharves B and C along the Saigon River. Wharf B will be repaired and cleaned, with new fencing, railings, access ramps and landscaping. Utilities such as power and water systems, lighting, surveillance cameras and visitor amenities will also be added. Wharf C will be converted into a landscaped green space and flower island to improve the area’s appearance.
Total investment is estimated at around VND80 billion, including VND50 billion for the two pedestrian bridges, with the remainder allocated to the wharf upgrades.
The project will be implemented under a build-transfer (BT) contract without payment from the city budget. The investor will fully finance and operate the facilities and, in return, will be allowed to install LED screens for public information and political messaging combined with commercial advertising, as well as operate selected services such as refreshment kiosks.
According to the plan, the two pedestrian bridges are scheduled for completion before April 30, 2026. The renovation and beautification of the wharves are expected to be finished ahead of the Lunar New Year in 2026.
