HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has told ministries, agencies and the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) to complete the first phase of the Long Thanh International Airport project in the first half of this year.
In a notice dated February 26, the PM instructed relevant ministries and agencies, particularly ACV, to review the remaining workload of the project’s phase one. They are required to develop detailed plans and implement construction measures to ensure progress in line with the target timeline.
The notice stated that relevant units are responsible for the project’s progress, quality and safety, and violations must be strictly handled to prevent bottlenecks during implementation.
The Long Thanh International Airport is a project of national importance, which covers around 5,000 hectares and requires a total of nearly VND337 trillion (around US$16 billion). The first phase includes the construction of two runways and a passenger terminal with a designed capacity of 25 million passengers per year. Several components were completed late last year and are expected to begin commercial operations from the middle of this year.
Under the approved investment policy, the second phase will add a third runway and a second passenger terminal with a capacity of 25 million passengers annually, along with supporting infrastructure. ACV, which is more than 95.41% state-owned, is the investor of both phases. The Ministry of Finance represents the State’s ownership in ACV, which has charter capital of over VND35.83 trillion.
According to ACV’s consolidated financial statements for the fourth quarter of 2025, unfinished construction costs for Long Thanh airport had reached VND34.19 trillion by the end of last year, up more than VND21.4 trillion compared to the beginning of the year.
