HCMC – Price remains the decisive factor for Vietnamese consumers when choosing ride-hailing services, with nearly 70% prioritizing fares, according to the Global Ride-Hailing Market Report 2026 released by TGM Research.

The study surveyed consumers in 30 countries, including Vietnam, and found fares were the most influential factor when selecting a ride-hailing app. Short driver waiting time ranked second, cited by 48% of respondents.

Other factors affecting platform choice included app features and convenience (57%), driver professionalism (43%), vehicle cleanliness and comfort (28%), and promotional offers (30%). Loyalty or reward programs had limited impact, cited by only 4% of respondents.

About 40% of those surveyed described ride-hailing apps as an essential “backup option” for their daily travel.

Commuting to work or school was the most common reason for using ride-hailing services, cited by 58% of respondents. Leisure trips followed at 51%, while 40% used the services for airport trips or longer journeys. Personal errands accounted for 31%, and 30% used ride-hailing for late-night travel.

Usage patterns varied by time of day and gender. Women reported higher usage during morning commuting hours, while men used the services more frequently in the evening. Late-night trips were less common overall but slightly more frequent among female respondents.
