Rice prices rise in Mekong Delta, export prices steady

HCMC – Rice and paddy prices in the Mekong Delta have increased sharply over the past week, reflecting shifts in supply and demand, while Vietnam’s export rice prices remained unchanged.

According to the Vietnam Food Association, prices of fresh paddy at farmgate for fragrant varieties have reached a high of VND6,350 per kilogram, averaging VND6,000 per kilogram, up VND243 per kilogram.

Prices of ordinary paddy have also picked up by an average of VND96 per kilogram, with a high of VND5,850 per kilogram and an average of VND5,611 per kilogram.

Prices of white rice have increased, with grade one rising the most by VND450 per kilogram to a high of VND11,050 per kilogram and an average of VND10,810 per kilogram. Grade 2 white rice has edged up by VND205 per kilogram to an average of VND9,750 per kilogram.

Brown rice prices have also increased. Grade one brown rice has reached a high of VND9,350 per kilogram and averaged VND9,000 per kilogram, up VND417 per kilogram. Grade 2 brown rice has increased by VND257 per kilogram to an average of VND8,514 per kilogram, with a high of VND8,950 per kilogram.

By-products have declined, with bran prices down VND79 per kilogram to an average of VND6,707 per kilogram, and broken rice down VND75 per kilogram to VND7,525 per kilogram on average.

In An Giang, several paddy varieties have remained stable. High-quality varieties such as OM 18 and Dai Thom 8 are priced at VND6,000–6,100 per kilogram. OM 5451 ranges from VND5,600–5,700 per kilogram, IR 50404 from VND5,400–5,500 per kilogram, while OM 34 is steady at around VND5,100–5,200 per kilogram.

On the export market, Vietnam’s 5% broken rice is quoted at US$375–380 per ton, unchanged from the previous week.
