HCMC – Motorbike riders in Vietnam are increasingly relying on navigation technology to maintain income and reduce traffic risks, according to a survey by HERE Technologies released on May 11.
The survey, conducted with Point Consulting, collected responses from more than 2,400 riders across Asia-Pacific, including 400 in Vietnam.
According to HERE Technologies, growing urbanization and rising delivery demand are turning navigation technology from a support tool into part of the digital economy’s income infrastructure.
About 32% of Vietnamese respondents use motorbikes to generate income, while 95% travel by motorbike daily, highlighting the growing link between personal transport, digital platforms, and earnings.
Route optimization ranked as the most important navigation feature for 62% of respondents. Another 51% prioritized automatic rerouting based on real-time traffic conditions.
Safety functions were also viewed as critical. Riders pointed to road hazard alerts and navigation systems designed for two-wheel vehicles as key tools during daily travel.
Voice navigation has become widely used among riders in dense traffic. Around 66% said they rely on voice guidance during trips, while 60% said the feature helps them stay focused on the road.
Road conditions remain a major concern. About 67% of respondents reported frequent risks from potholes and damaged roads. Another 66% expressed concern about traveling near trucks and large vehicles.
For ride-hailing and delivery drivers, the study found navigation technology has a direct impact on earnings. Delayed routing updates, inaccurate travel-time estimates, and limited road-risk forecasting can reduce work efficiency.
