HCMC – South Korea has launched a project worth 6.7 billion won (around US$4.8 million) to support the development of Vietnam’s sesame value chain, focusing on Nghe An and Dong Thap provinces as key growing regions.

The project is being implemented by the Korea Rural Community Corporation (KRC) in cooperation with South Korea’s Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA). This marks a new phase in agricultural cooperation and food security partnership between the two countries through 2027.

Under the project, South Korea will support the construction of agricultural product processing and distribution centers, seed production facilities, and modern drying and processing systems.

In addition to infrastructure investment, South Korean agricultural experts will provide training and transfer advanced farming technologies to local farmers in Vietnam. The project aims to address low productivity and outdated processing methods while improving the competitiveness of Vietnamese sesame products in international markets.

Representatives of Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Environment said the initiative is expected to boost the development of specialty agricultural products, particularly in Nghe An Province, where sesame cultivation is being promoted under the national rural development program.

Officials said the establishment of an integrated value chain, from seed selection to deep processing, would help improve product quality and raise incomes for thousands of farming households in both northern and southern Vietnam. The project is being viewed as a model for combining South Korea’s technological expertise with Vietnam’s agricultural production advantages.
