HCMC – The My Thuan Project Management Board has proposed investing nearly VND45.5 trillion in the 63.6-kilometer Duc Hoa-My An expressway, with construction targeted to begin in 2027 and finish by 2030 if approved.
The board has submitted the proposal to the Ministry of Construction for appraisal. The project forms part of the western North-South Expressway corridor.
The planned route would pass through Tay Ninh and Dong Thap provinces, with more than 60 kilometers running through Tay Ninh and just over three kilometers through Dong Thap.
The expressway is designed with four lanes and a maximum speed of 120 kilometers per hour. It would connect with HCMC’s Beltway No. 4 near the Hoa Khanh interchange in Duc Hue Commune, Tay Ninh Province, and extend to the first phase of the My An-Cao Lanh Expressway in Doc Binh Kieu Commune, Dong Thap Province.
The My Thuan Project Management Board outlined two investment scenarios.
Under the first option, the route would be built on conventional embankments combined with bridges crossing rivers, canals and roads, with an estimated cost of nearly VND37 trillion.
The second option calls for an elevated expressway along the entire route, except at interchange sections, at a projected cost of nearly VND45.5 trillion.
After evaluating technical factors, climate change adaptation, impacts on residential areas, land clearance requirements, irrigation systems and development potential along the corridor, the board recommended the elevated option.
According to the board, the project would help complete the western North-South strategic transport corridor, improve links between Tay Ninh, Dong Thap, the Mekong Delta and HCMC, and ease traffic pressure on National Highway N2 and existing roads.
The project is also expected to strengthen transport capacity, support socioeconomic development, and contribute to national defense and security in the southwestern border region.
