Amid the fourth Covid-19 wave, Nam Long Group has launched the “Nam Long supports the fight against Covid-19 in 2021” program. Since 2020, Nam Long has contributed nearly VND25 billion and conducted multiple activities to support residents and localities hit by the pandemic.
Prompt contributions to the anti-Covid fight
Over the past few months, the pandemic in HCMC has been raging with a four-digit daily Covid-19 case number for many days, with many urban areas being put under lockdown. Nam Long Group has cooperated with volunteers to carry out many activities to support the city both in cash and in kind, helping ease the pressure on local residents.
Affirming the group’s commitment to the community, Nam Long Chairman Nguyen Xuan Quang said, “This is a tough and challenging period, requiring the efforts of all people in the society. With the humane values that Nam Long has been pursuing, we commit to accompanying the authorities and the people across the country to protect the life of all residents and the safety and stability of the entire society.”
Besides supporting residential areas developed by the group, many booths offering free fresh food and necessities have been opened, giving residents a leg up over the mobility restriction period.
More than 2,600 gift sets, including food and foodstuffs, have been sent to apartment buildings put under lockdown, encouraging Nam Long’s residents to win over the pandemic. Amid the fourth Covid-19 wave, Nam Long has also donated VND12 billion, sourced from the group’s budget and contributed by its leaders and employees, to the national Covid-19 vaccine fund.
Further, the group has presented protective suits and medical equipment to frontline hospitals in HCMC, supported Bac Giang in the Covid-19 testing and treatment work, and held multiple activities to improve the public awareness of health protection.
In June, when Bac Giang was a Covid-19 hotspot of the country with some 300 new cases per day and its medical workers faced a severe shortage of medical supplies, Nam Long spent nearly VND2 billion helping the province improve its healthcare system.
In response to the call from the Government, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee and the HCMC authorities to improve the public immunity, the group later contributed VND5 billion to the Covid-19 vaccine fund through the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of HCMC.
In July, Nam Long continued to raise its spending on the fight against Covid-19 this year to VND17 billion. To date, through the “Nam Long supports the fight against Covid-19 in 2021” program, Nam Long has presented 160,000 cotton swabs for taking samples for Covid-19 testing, 590 fingertip pulse oximeters, 304,000 medical face masks, 15,700 protective suits, three ECG machines, three light-guided endotracheal tubes and four high flow nasal oxygen systems to 27 frontline hospitals, such as Cho Ray Hospital, an intensive care unit in Thu Duc City, the HCMC Hospital for Tropical Diseases, Gia Dinh Hospital, HCMC Children’s Hospital 2, the University Medical Center, Hung Vuong Hospital, Covid-19 treatment hospitals in Can Gio and Cu Chi districts and the field hospital No. 12.
These activities are part of the “Nam Long supports the fight against Covid-19 in 2021” program initiated in 2020. The program is aimed at giving financial and spiritual support to frontline forces who have faced danger and a shortage of medical equipment in the fight against the pandemic.
Nam Long’s sustainable development commitment
Following the sustainable development orientation, Nam Long is one of the pioneers in community activities.
In the initial period of the anti-Covid fight, the group, in association with the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee, spent VND2.5 billion donating essential commodities to frontline workers, including the healthcare force, border guards, volunteers, residents, the youth and adolescents in localities hit by the pandemic, such as Danang, Hai Duong and Quang Nam.
In addition, the group has launched 13 rice dispensers often dubbed Rice ATMs with 70 tons of rice in Long An Province.
When floods struck the central region in October last year, causing heavy human and property losses, leaders and employees of Nam Long joined forced with Thanh Nien and Sai Gon Giai Phong newspapers to donate money, blankets and jackets to residents there. Nam Long also cooperated with Tai Nguyen va Moi Truong newspaper to present water tanks to families of fishermen in island districts of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province.
Other remarkable social projects of Nam Long include the social housing project EHomeS for low-income people, and the annual scholarship program “Swing For Dreams” supporting poor students with an excellent academic performance in universities in HCMC, including the Universities of Architecture, Economics, Technology, Information Technology, and Medicine and Pharmacy, and the HCMC Foreign Trade University. Thousands of notebooks and bicycles have been also handed over to students in Long An Province, while hundreds of computers have been presented to schools in mountainous areas.
Nam Long has also maintained many programs to support poor households, hand over houses of gratitude, improve the spiritual life of border guards and present gifts to children in remote areas.
