CAN THO – Vietnam exported seafood worth an estimated US$8 billion from January to November 2021, increasing 3.7% compared with the same period last year.

Data of the General Department of Customs showed that in November alone, the country exported seafood worth US$875 billion, soaring 18% year-on-year.

According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), Vietnam expects to export seafood worth US$8.4 billion this year. To meet this target, the country needs to export seafood worth some US$400 million in December.

VASEP said this goal is achievable thanks to the high demand for seafood from the import markets in the year-end peak season. Besides, seafood exports have recovered strongly after the Government relaxed anti-pandemic measures.

Most of the key seafood products of Vietnam enjoyed strong growth in November. Exports of shrimp reached nearly US$350 million, increasing 11% compared to the same period last year, while exports of tra fish, tuna, and squid and octopus rose 23%, 48% and 37% year-on-year to US$178 million, US$76 million and US$69 million, respectively.
