HCMC – The Ministry of Health this evening, December 6, confirmed 14,591 fresh Covid-19 cases, with 33 of them imported and 14,558 locally infected in 59 cities and provinces, up 246 cases over yesterday.
Of the new domestic infections, the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho accounted for the most at 1,189, followed by HCMC with 1,174 and Tay Ninh with 859.
Soc Trang, Ben Tre, Dong Thap, Ca Mau, Binh Phuoc, Hanoi, Ba Ria-Vung Tau and Vinh Long detected over 500 cases each, while the remainder were reported in other localities.
Vietnam has reported over 1.3 million locally transmitted cases in the ongoing fourth wave of the coronavirus, which began in late April, with more than one million patients having been discharged from hospitals.
The ministry also confirmed 223 new Covid deaths, including 94 in HCMC, 20 in Long An, 18 in Can Tho, 15 in An Giang, 14 in Dong Nai, 13 in Tay Ninh and 10 in Tien Giang.
Kien Giang, Binh Thuan, Soc Trang, Tra Vinh, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Dong Thap, Bac Lieu, Ca Mau, Quang Tri, Quang Ngai, Lam Dong, Nam Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Daklak and Ben Tre reported less than 10 deaths each.
The country’s Covid death toll now stands at 26,483, accounting for 2% of all the Covid cases.
In related news, HCMC remained at moderate risk of coronavirus transmission, while District 11 and Can Gio District upgraded their transmission risk level from low to moderate and District 4 upgraded its level from moderate to high, according to an announcement issued by the municipal government today.
Tan Phu District has downgraded its pandemic transmission risk level from moderate to low, the local media reported.
Seven other districts, including 1, 6, 7, 8, Binh Chanh, Cu Chi and Tan Binh, are at low risk of community spread.
In another development, Vietnam has taken delivery of over 150.6 million Covid vaccine doses and had 73.7% of adults getting two shots, according to the Ministry of Health.
Forty-nine of the nation’s 63 provinces and cities are implementing their child vaccination campaigns. Some 5.3 million doses have been administered to children at 12 to 17 years of age. Over 47% of the country’s children population has received the first shot of the Pfizer Covid vaccine, while 10.3% of children nationwide have been fully vaccinated.
