HCMC – Vietnam reported 13,840 new Covid-19 cases this evening, December 7, with five of them imported and 13,835 locally infected, declining 723 domestic cases day-on-day, said the Ministry of Health.

The locally transmitted cases were found in 59  provinces and cities, with HCMC taking the lead with 965 cases, followed by the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho with 898 cases, and the southern province of Tay Ninh with 869 cases. Soc Trang, Hanoi, Dong Thap, Binh Duong, and Binh Phuoc reported 640 to 746 cases each. There are 23 other localities seeing triple-digit case numbers.

The ministry reported 217 Covid deaths and 1,249 new recoveries, raising the country’s Covid death toll and recoveries to 26,700 cases and over one million cases, respectively.

In related news, the north-central province of Nghe An is planning a pilot scheme allowing cases with no or mild symptoms in Vinh City and Cua Lo Town to receive home-based care and treatment.

In mountainous districts of Nghe An, the distance between one house and another remains too far. Each commune has only one medical station with a limited number of healthcare workers while the daily workload of each station is heavy, the health official explained.

In Quang Ninh Province, the provincial Party secretary Nguyen Xuan Ky at a meeting on December 6 tasked the provincial health authority with mapping out a plan to give Covid-19 vaccine booster shots to people aged 18 and older in line with the Health Ministry’s guidelines and having to complete the plan in the first quarter of 2022.

As for Vinh Long Province in the Mekong Delta, Nguyen Thi Quyen Thanh, vice chairwoman of the provincial government, today signed a decision approving a plan to give booster shots to 95% of the population aged 18 or above, equivalent to over 782,000 people, from the end of this year to next year.

In Hanoi, district-level authorities have been asked to evaluate their Covid transmission risk levels to timely adjust anti-Covid measures. Based on the risk levels, the capital city may restrict or suspend non-essential services.

Currently, outdoor activities, hair salons, dine-in services are allowed to operate until 9 p.m. daily in Hanoi. Meanwhile, bars and clubs remain closed.

Further, at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases’ Kim Chung Campus in Hanoi’s Dong Anh District, all of the 500 hospital beds are being converted into ICU beds for severely-ill Covid patients, given a spike in new cases in the capital.
