HCMC – The Ministry of Health this evening, December 16 reported 15,270 fresh Covid cases, while Tay Ninh Province updated 18,792 Covid infections to the national Covid case management system, taking the country’s Covid caseload to over 1.49 million.
Among the latest cases, three of them were imported and 15,267 were locally infected in 60 cities and provinces, down 255 cases over yesterday.
Ca Mau Province took the lead in the number of new domestic infections with 1,339 cases, followed by HCMC with 1,177, Tay Ninh with 932 and Binh Phuoc with 880.
Dong Thap, Ben Tre, Can Tho, Khanh Hoa, Vinh Long and Bac Lieu detected 500-800 cases each, while the rest were found in other localities.
Since the fourth wave of the pandemic, the country has reported over 1.48 million domestic cases, with over one million patients having recovered from the disease.
The ministry today also reported 241 new Covid fatalities, including 65 in HCMC, 26 in Dong Nai, 20 in An Giang, 19 in Tay Ninh, 15 in Tien Giang, 14 in Binh Duong, 12 in Can Tho and 10 each in Dong Thap and Kien Giang. Other provinces and cities reported fewer than 10 deaths each.
The Covid death toll now stands at 28,857, accounting for 2% of the total Covid cases in Vietnam.
In related news, the Lam Dong Province government has decided to establish 11 more Covid treatment facilities for patients with no or mild symptoms in Duc Trong and Da Huoai districts.
Up to date, the province has set up 36 Covid treatment facilities under Level 1, with a total of over 3,880 beds, the local media reported.
Besides, the province has established two medical facilities under Levels 2 and 3, with a total of 82 ICU beds, said Deputy Director of the Lam Dong Department of Health Trinh Van Quyet.
In another development, four days after 9th and 12th graders in HCMC returned to in-person classes, eight Covid cases, including six students and two teachers, were detected, Pham Duc Hai, deputy head of the HCMC’s anti-Covid steering committee, told a press briefing today.
