Oldest Co.opmart supermarket in HCMC to shut down next year

Must read

HCMC – Saigon Co.op has planned to shut down its supermarket on Cong Quynh Street, District 1, the oldest Co.opmart supermarket in HCMC, in late March 2021, to return the site to the Border Guard Command.

A Saigon Co.op representative said the cooperative is negotiating over the closure with the Border Guard Command to ensure the rights and benefits of its customers.

The HCMC government has asked the Border Guard Command to support Saigon Co.op in continuing the operations of the supermarket until March 31, 2021.

Co.opmart Cong Quynh, which opened in 1996 at 189C, Cong Quynh Street, Nguyen Cu Trinh Ward, District 1, is the first Co.opmart supermarket in HCMC and the only one in District 1.

During its nearly 25 years of operations, the Co.opmart Cong Quynh supermarket provided HCMC consumers with quality and safe products.

To meet the increasing demand during the year-end peak season and Tet (Lunar New Year), the supermarket has been asked to collaborate with the HCMC Department of Industry and Trade and the Saigon Trading Group to ensure price stabilization and provide sufficient goods for consumers.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the Co.opmart Cong Quynh supermarket participated in the city’s price stabilization program.

Saigon Co.op had earlier closed down Co.op Mart Dinh Tien Hoang supermarket in Binh Thanh District and Co.opmart Thang Loi in Tan Binh District.
