HCMC – The SP-ITC International Container Terminal in HCMC’s Thu Duc City today, December 25, welcomed Changsha container ship, which is the first direct service to link the terminal with the Port of Everett in Washington, U.S.
With its carrying capacity of 2,400 TEUs, aside from carrying cargo containers, the vessel currently sailing under the flag of Hong Kong also transported over 500 empty containers to be unloaded at the SP-ITC terminal to serve exporters’ goods shipping activities during this peak season.
After leaving the SP-ITC terminal, the vessel would sail across the Pacific Ocean to arrive at the Port of Everett in the U.S.
According to multipurpose liner company Swire Shipping, which operates the Changsha service, the ship is usually operated on short- and medium-distance routes. However, given a surging demand for shipping goods from Vietnam to the U.S. over the past few months, the company had launched the Changsha service to directly transport cargo from the HCMC-based terminal to the west of the U.S., offering direct logistics services to support cargo owners in Vietnam as well as retailers in the U.S. in preparing their business plans for 2022.
Further, the welcoming of the Changsha direct service connecting HCMC with the U.S. also indicated that the SP-ITC terminal serves as a hub connecting Vietnamese cargo to major markets in the world.
