Sierra Leone expects Vietnam to share experiences in agricultural development

HCMC – President of Sierra Leone Julius Maada Bio, during his talks with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on March 15, expressed his admiration for Vietnam’s achievements in the agriculture sector and expected Vietnam to share its experiences in developing the sector.

Julius Maada Bio arrived in Vietnam on March 14 to pay a visit to the country from March 14 to 20 on the invitation of State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, the local media reported.

At the meeting with PM Chinh, Julius said Sierra Leone attached importance to the development of its friendship and cooperation with Vietnam, highly evaluated Vietnam’s socioeconomic development achievements and sought to strengthen the cooperation with Vietnam in trade, investment, telecommunications, education and training.

For his part, PM Chinh said Vietnam always treasured its cooperation with African countries, including Sierra Leone.

He highly spoke of the development of the bilateral cooperation, saying that the two sides held great potential to expand their cooperation, especially in the trade, investment, agriculture, technology, education-training, security and national defense sectors.

The prime minister asked ministries, agencies and enterprises of the two countries to effectively deploy cooperation agreements. Leaders of ministries and agencies should discuss measures to boost their partnership and create favorable conditions for enterprises to seek investment opportunities.

Vietnam is willing to work with Sierra Leone to boost the collaboration in the agriculture sector, especially in rice cultivation and processing.

During a meeting on March 14, Julius and State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc also expressed their delight at the development of the relations between the two countries.

In terms of economy, although the two countries’ bilateral trade has been modest, it has maintained its growth momentum, increasing from US$17 million in 2018 to US$51.5 million in 2021.

The two leaders also witnessed the signing of three bilateral cooperation documents between the ministries and agencies of the two countries in the fields of diplomacy, agriculture and fisheries.
