HCMC – The Ministry of Health will begin issuing Covid vaccine passports to local residents from April 15, said Do Truong Duy, head of the ministry’s Department of Information Technology.

At a virtual conference on the Covid vaccine passport issuance on April 4, Duy said all necessary preparations for issuing vaccine passports had been completed.

Vaccinated residents will automatically receive their vaccine passports after their vaccination status is updated on the national Covid vaccination monitoring system.

The vaccine passport, which was approved by the Ministry of Health in December last year, includes information about resident’s name, date of birth, number of doses given, dates of vaccination and name of vaccine, among others.

The vaccine passport issuing process will include three steps. Vaccination units will review and confirm vaccinated residents’ information. The data will later be confirmed by the local Departments of Health or Centers for Disease Control, and the General Department of Preventive Medicine under the Ministry of Health.

The vaccine passport will be made available on the mobility and health declaration app PC-Covid or So suc khoe dien tu (electronic health record) or a website launched this week by the Ministry of Health.

The Ministry of Health had earlier piloted issuing the vaccine passport to vaccinated residents at E, K and Bach Mai hospitals in Hanoi.

In HCMC, the vaccine passport has been trialed for those vaccinated at Gia An 115 General Hospital.

As of April 1, Vietnam has administered more than 200 million vaccine doses, with all residents aged 18 and older having got the first shot, 99%, the second dose and 50%, the third shot.

In addition, 99% of people aged between 12 and 17 have received the first shot and 94% have got the second shot.

However, information about some 42 million doses has yet to be updated on the vaccination management platform, according to the Ministry of Public Security.
