Co-hosted by the HCMC Union of Friendship Organizations, the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in HCMC and Ao Dai Exhibition, the fashion show themed “Ao Dai-Batik: A Crossroad Of Two Heritages” introduces the unique cultural values of both Vietnam and Indonesia, especially Vietnamese ao dai and Indonesian batik art.
Mr. Agustaviano Sofjan, Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in HCMC, said at the fashion show taking place on April 3 in HCMC that this event is a proof of the long and strong friendship between Vietnam and Indonesia. It shows how culture enriches and brings everyone together.
During the event, participants had a chance to see the performance of ao dai through ages and clothes made of hand-drawn batik silk, a batik art workshop hosted by Indonesian batik artisan Venny Afwanny Alamsyah and much more.
This event marks the opening of the Batik Week program featuring a series of activities, performances and workshops in HCMC.
Batik—Indonesian traditional art has been officially recognized as a living expression of the culture of Indonesia since 2009 when the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) designated Indonesian batik as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
