HCMC – International Transportation and Trading JSC (ITC) has teamed up with CMA CGM, a French container transportation and shipping company, to launch a joint venture that will provide barge services in Vietnam.
General International Logistics Company (GIL) will offer three monthly barge services linking the SP-ITC international container terminal in HCMC and the Cai Mep port in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province.
The barge services are expected to boost Vietnam’s exports to some key markets in North America and Europe.
Every week, four long-haul vessels of CMA CGM will arrive at the Cai Mep port, which acts as the main gateway in the southern key economic zone.
Adeline Franger Chouraqui, General Director of CMA CGM Vietnam, said that the company has 30 years of operational experience in Vietnam. Its services help connect Vietnam with key markets worldwide, with 72 ship arrivals per week.
The launch of the barge services demonstrate CMA CGM’s commitment to supplying efficient, flexible and sustainable transport solutions to customers, Chouraqui said.
Nguyen Van Chuyen, Chairman of ITC, which is among the leading shipping and logistics enterprises in Vietnam, said GIL will gather the strengths and experience of both CMA CGM and ITC to develop into a major logistics provider in the local market.
