Airlines’ on-time performance falls during Tet holiday

HCMC – The average on-time performance (OTP) of the Vietnamese aviation industry was recorded at 80.61% during the 2023 Lunar New Year holiday, down five percentage points year-on-year.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam reported to the Ministry of Transport on the flight delays and cancellations during the Tet holiday, emphasizing that the OTP of many airlines dropped over the same period last year and two years ago.

During the 2023 Tet holiday, the OTP for the airline industry was only 80.61%, lower than the figures of 86% in 2022 and 85.3% in 2020.

Bamboo Airways ranked first in the OTP, with a rate of 92.81%, followed by Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air, with rates of 84.87% and 75.06%, respectively.

Vietravel Airlines came in fourth with an OTP of 83.79%, while Pacific Airlines had only 59.12% of flights departing on time.

The delay and cancellation rate for the industry during the period was 19.39%. Pacific Airlines, Vietjet and VASCO had the highest rates, with 40.88%, 24.94%, and 19.56% of their flights being canceled or delayed, respectively.

Vietravel Airlines, Vietnam Airlines, and Bamboo Airways boasted lower delay and cancellation rates, reporting rates of 16.21%, 15.13%, and 7.19% of their flights being canceled or delayed, respectively.

To meet the high travel demand during the upcoming holiday, Vietnamese carriers have planned to increase their flights and seats.

Bamboo Airways and Vietjet Air plan to increase their capacities by 15% and 20%, respectively.

Meanwhile, Vietnam Airlines and VASCO will operate an additional 2,800 flights on domestic routes from April 26 to May 5.
