HCMC – The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) will strengthen control over air ticket pricing to ensure domestic airfares are not above the regulatory caps during the upcoming public holidays.

Pursuant to a directive recently issued by this authority, domestic carriers are requested to sell tickets at their registered prices, not exceeding the ceiling price stipulated in Circular 17 of the Transport Ministry on the price range for passenger transport services on domestic routes.

The price cap for a one-way economy class airline ticket will not be higher than VND3.75 million for a 1,280-kilometer and longer route.

The CAAV told domestic airlines to fully comply with regulations on the price listing and announcement and said it would apply strict sanctions to carriers and authorized ticket agents that sell tickets above the price cap, especially during the upcoming public holidays and peak season.

According to the Vietnam News Agency, from the end of March this year, return tickets of some routes from Hanoi and HCMC to tourist destinations such as Phu Quoc, Dalat, Hue, Danang, Con Dao and Nha Trang saw continuous price hikes. Flight tickets for these routes ranged from VND3 million to VND5.5 million, sometimes increasing to VND8 million for a return ticket.
