Attending to the needy

The Saigon Times

Must read

For DXC Vietnam, giving help where it is most needed has long been the company’s moral practice, and as such, the IT service provider has gone to great lengths to support the community during the tough times ushered in by the Covid-19 pandemic. In spite of the challenges caused by the pandemic and its effect on the workplace, DXC Vietnam has still managed to push its corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities.

“We believe in stewardship and building a sustainable company that supports our communities,” said a representative of DXC Vietnam, adding “we are all bound together, and that we achieve ourselves by sharing ourselves with others and caring for those around us.”

Timely response

As the Covid pandemic resurged in Vietnam in late April this year and soon peaked in June, the IT service company quickly responded by donating 22 laptops in July to the Healthcare Division of Binh Chanh District, which was then seeing a major Covid-19 outbreak in HCMC. These technology devices were meant to help healthcare professionals and volunteers to do their work of collecting, retrieving and storing data related to the pandemic.

This donation was soon followed in August by a donation of VND120 million handed to the HCMC Red Cross Society to support poor families affected by the pandemic. This donation from DXC Vietnam was made into relief aid comprising groceries, hygiene products, medicine, and other necessities for 240 families and low-income people who are in desperate need of help to overcome this hard time.

In addition, learning that healthcare workers and professionals need support as they are on the frontlines to take care of patients, Ngo Hung Phuong, managing director of DXC Vietnam, presented a check worth over VND200 million to the HCMC Sponsoring Association for Poor Patients. The donation was used to acquire medical devices such as N95 face masks, personal protection equipment sets, and medical gloves among others.

Educational support

Aside from its Covid relief aid given to those affected by the health crisis, the IT firm has for long cannoned its attention to educational support. At DXC Vietnam, helping children is a major part of its CSR activities, the company’s representative said.

In November last year, following the devastating floods in central Vietnam, a donation of VND126 million from DXC Vietnam employees was collected in response to the relief efforts in the region. DXC Vietnam sent a volunteers team to Phong Dien and Quang Dien districts of Thua Thien Hue Province to hand over necessary supplies and money to 50 families affected by the flood. Also, they presented school supplies, money and other necessities to 200 children studying at primary schools there. Further, 20 appreciation gifts were offered to teachers on Vietnamese Teacher’s Day on November 20.

A couple of months later, the company delivered relief supplies including warm jackets, backpacks, school uniforms, fresh milk, and stationery items to 242 children studying at the Phuoc Kim Primary School in Phuoc Kim Commune of Quang Nam Province who were affected severely by recent typhoons. The firm also donated a purified water system and presented 27 teachers with appreciation gifts valued at VND90 million in total.

Early this year, a team from DXC Vietnam visited Thien Binh Charity Center in Dong Nai Province to give Tet gifts and donate daily supplies, backpacks, hygiene products, and stationery items valued at around VND69 million to 169 children at the center. In addition, the team presented Tet gifts and lucky money to 29 elderly people being cared for at the center.

Apart from direct activities benefiting underprivileged people, DXC Vietnam has also rallied its employees to participate in other social activities such as blood donation drives organized by the Saigon Times Group and AMCHAM, Fun Run for Charity, and Earth’s Day among others.

“We will continue making progress from the CSR journey that we’ve embarked on. It takes the commitment of dedicated employees, living our passions every day in our local community in which we live and work,” said the DXC Vietnam representative.
