Special culinary workshop for those facing challenges

Christine Ha, the 2012 winner of MasterChef, recently took part in a unique culinary event in Danang, Vietnam, as part of her role as a culinary envoy for the U.S. Department of State. At the event, Christine Ha provided culinary guidance to 12 individuals from Cocoon, a free culinary training program for the handicapped and underprivileged. Among the participants were five deaf students and one student with a physical disability. Together with Chef Tuyet Pham, the runner-up of MasterChef Vietnam 2015, Chef Ha taught them how to prepare Thai salads. Natella Svistunova, the Cultural Attaché of the U.S. Consulate General in HCMC, praised Ha as an outstanding example of someone who overcame difficulties and bridged Vietnamese and American values. The event also featured stories about Ha, an American blind chef champion who has inspired the global culinary community. She made history as the first blind contestant on MasterChef, impressing judges and showcasing the abilities of the disabled.
