HCMC – Bamboo Airways is preparing to evacuate Vietnamese nationals from Ukraine at the request of the local authorities, Huong Tran Kieu Dung, vice chairwoman of FLC and Bamboo Airways, said on February 27.

According to Dung, since the start of Russia’s special military operation in neighboring Ukraine, the airline had planned to repatriate Vietnamese citizens in Ukraine after receiving a directive from the Vietnamese Government and ministries.

On February 26, the Government Office released Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s telegram on the protection of Vietnamese and guidelines amid the Russia-Ukraine tension.

The military conflict in Ukraine, where nearly 7,000 Vietnamese are living, might threaten the lives and assets of people and firms. One of the top priorities of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Government and the prime minister is guaranteeing the security and safety of Vietnamese in Ukraine and other relevant places, according to the telegram.

As such, the prime minister ordered the relevant ministries to come up with solutions, tasking the Ministry of Transport with assigning air carriers to bring home Vietnamese citizens from Ukraine, the local media reported.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam had earlier asked Vietnamese airlines to review and select air routes to avoid Ukraine’s airspace and the closure of affected routes.

The International Civil Aviation Organization’s European and North Atlantic Regional Office has announced the closure of airspace over Moldova, Ukraine, and part of the flight information region in Russia.
