HCMC – The southern province of Binh Duong will have a new city called Tan Uyen, with a total area of 191.76 square kilometers and a population of over 466,000. The new city will have 10 wards and two communes of Tan Uyen Town.
Yesterday, February 13, all the National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee members approved draft resolutions on establishment of new administrative units and adjust the administrative boundaries of 10 provinces in the country, including Binh Duong, the local media reported.
Tan Uyen Town, an industrial and service hub in Binh Duong, was recognized as a grade-III urban city in 2018 by the Ministry of Construction, according to Minister of Home Affairs Pham Thi Thanh Tra.
With the forthcoming establishment of Tan Uyen City, Binh Duong will have four cities, one town, and four districts, with 91 commune-level administrative units. The province’s urbanization rate is 84.32%
In the northern region, the NA Standing Committee agreed to upgrade Thuan Thanh and Que Vo Districts in Bac Ninh Province into towns. The new towns will become industrial, services, agricultural, and hi-tech urban cities and drivers of socioeconomic growth in the northern and southern parts of the Duong River, Tra said.
In the Mekong Delta, Tinh Bien District of An Giang Province would be developed into Tinh Bien Town.
The central province of Quang Nam has five communes upgraded into wards under Dien Ban Town.
The draft resolutions to set up new administrative units in the nine provinces of Binh Duong, Bac Ninh, An Giang, Quang Nam, Vinh Phuc, Thai Nguyen, Ben Tre, Bac Kan and Daklak will take effect from April 10 this year. Meanwhile, those to adjust the administrative boundaries linked to Duyen Hai District, Tra Vinh Province, will be effective from March 1.
