HCMC – A British business mission comprising 17 companies specializing in offshore wind, green hydrogen, and energy storage has visited Vietnam to explore opportunities in the country’s burgeoning renewable energy sector.
The visit, organized by the British Embassy in Hanoi and the British Consulate General in HCMC, marks the second consecutive year such a mission has been arranged.
The delegation, led by UK Deputy Trade Commissioner for Southeast Asia Rhiannon Harries, participated in the Green Economic Forum and Exhibition 2024 from October 21 to 23 and had meetings with Vietnamese energy giants Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) and PetroVietnam (PVN).
“Vietnam has set ambitious targets for renewable energy development, including 6GW of offshore wind power by 2030,” said Harries. “The UK, with its world-leading offshore wind industry, is well-positioned to support Vietnam’s green transition.”
The delegation shared insights on renewable energy development and supply chain strategies with Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade during a workshop.
Alexandra Smith, British consul general in HCMC, emphasized the UK’s commitment to supporting Vietnam’s energy transition, particularly through the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).
The UK government and British businesses are eager to collaborate with Vietnam to unlock the potential of renewable energy, she said.
