HCMC – Cambodian tourist arrivals in Vietnam in the first three months of this year skyrocketed by 335% against the same period of the pre-pandemic year 2019, according to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism.
There were 113,000 Cambodians traveling to Vietnam in the first quarter, up from the 34,000 visitors recorded in the same period of 2019. This surge positions Cambodia as Vietnam’s fastest-growing tourism market.
Among other markets, India ranked second in terms of recovery rate with a 304% expansion, followed by Indonesia with 188%, and Taiwan with 145%.
According to local travel agents, Cambodian visitors to Vietnam are primarily comprised of three groups: business travelers, medical tourists, and leisure tourists. While Tay Ninh was previously a popular destination for Cambodian tourists, Phu Quoc Island has emerged as a preferred destination post-pandemic.
Since 2023, HCMC has initiated various medical tourism promotion programs aimed at attracting Cambodian tourists.
