HCMC – Can Tho City is seeking to strengthen trade, investment and technical cooperation with Dutch partners, as exports from the city to the Netherlands reached US$11.64 million in 2025, according to the Can Tho City People’s Committee.

A Dutch delegation led by Raissa Marteaux, Consul General of the Netherlands in HCMC, met with the Can Tho City People’s Committee on January 20 to discuss potential areas of cooperation. The delegation included representatives from Dutch technology companies, financial institutions and policy organizations.

Tran Chi Hung, vice chairman of Can Tho City, said the visit showed increasingly substantive ties between Can Tho and the Netherlands. He noted that cooperation has been particularly strong in areas where the Netherlands has expertise, including human resource training, water management, smart agriculture and sustainable development.

In agriculture, Can Tho is seeking cooperation with Dutch partners on research into crop varieties adapted to saline intrusion, modern greenhouse technologies, and systems for water management, water treatment and soil analysis.

According to the city government, Can Tho’s exports to the Netherlands in 2025 totaled US$11.64 million. Main export products included seafood, garments, sports gloves and processed agricultural goods.

Current trade and investment flows do not yet match the potential of both sides. Can Tho expects the Dutch Consulate and businesses to help promote import-export activities and strengthen connections so Dutch investors can explore opportunities in priority sectors.

These sectors include agricultural and seafood processing, manufacturing, high-tech agriculture, information technology, infrastructure development and trade, under the city’s investment promotion list for 2023–2025 with orientation to 2030.

Consul General Raissa Marteaux said the Netherlands values its cooperation with Can Tho and will continue to promote partnerships in training and other areas proposed by the city.

She added that the delegation’s visit also aimed to propose solutions to improve crop production in the Mekong Delta, including Can Tho, with a focus on managing saline intrusion, improving seed quality, enhancing crop output and raising productivity.
