Going beyond KPI

Nearly 80% of Vietnamese companies have adopted performance management systems, but inconsistent implementation across organizational levels has limited their effectiveness. As a result, business leaders are increasingly redefining performance, shifting the focus toward shared accountability between executives and employees. Vietnamese businesses are catching up with modern management trends. They are gradually embracing modern management practices. With stronger resources, large enterprises are leading the way by aligning with international performance standards. Meanwhile, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) continue to face hurdles in optimizing performance, constrained by limited access to capital, human resources, and technology. A balance between productivity and profit The newly appointed CEO set KPIs for the company’s two key sales directors: each was expected to sell the new product to 10 key accounts. Director A hit the target, closing deals with all 10 key accounts by offering a discount of up to 30% and extending payment terms to two months. Director B, meanwhile, landed only seven clients, falling short of the KPI, yet maintained tighter terms: a 15% discount and payment within one month.
