A 60-year-old marathoner

A man in his sixties has four times finished the full marathon of over 42km, achieving better and better results. Working at Tay Nguyen University in Buon Ma Thuot City, Dak Lak Province, Phan Van Khuong, 60, began practicing running around his house’s neighborhood in 2019. One year later, he joined a local running club, where he had a chance to learn professional running lessons. Khuong said he used to be tired when running less than 3km, let alone the 10km distance. However, thanks to other runners, he realized that he had run in a wrong way, which made him easily tired. “Where there is a will there is a way, age does not matter,” he said. After following many technical lessons and practices, running up to 100km per week, Khuong’s results became better and better. To finish the 10km run for the first time, he had to train for six consecutive months, along with a proper diet, rest and nutrition supplement. It took him nearly one year of training to finish the 21km event at the VnExpress Marathon Nha Trang 2023.
